Arrest after railway sex attacks

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with sex attacks on women leaving Rochester railway station.
Officers said the man was arrested in Kent late on Thursday and is now being questioned at a police station.

Police had urged travellers to take extra care after two women were attacked at knifepoint.

The first attack happened on a train from London Victoria to Rochester on 15 July. Another woman was attacked at the station on Wednesday.

In both cases, the women were saved by passers-by who scared the attacker off.

Police warned passengers not to travel alone on trains late at night and said that women on their own should stay in a carriage near the driver.

Det Insp Alan Jenkinson, of British Transport Police, said the women were threatened with a knife during the attacks.
